Join the fun, and sign up for one of the fastest growing, co-educational sailing sports in America. Last Fall teams from White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi, North St. Paul and St. Thomas Academy trained together on White Bear Lake at the WBSS facility. While some schools have formed teams, school sponsorship is not required, and some students sail as individuals representing their school. This program accepts beginner to advanced sailors ranging from 7th-12th grade. Students in 7th and 8th grade are welcome to train with the team, but may not be eligible to compete at all regattas. 9th-12th graders train and compete in local, regional and national regattas. High School sailing has two seasons, spring and fall. The spring season starts in April and continues until the end of May. The spring season sails in 420s. In the fall, training begins early in September, continues through November, and concludes with the Great Lakes High School Championship. The fall season sails in both lasers and 420s. All of our teams train to qualify for National High School Championships for single-handed (laser), double-handed (420) and team racing (420-teams). The price includes the use of 420s, coaching support at practice and traveling events. We will also assist teams with organization and growing a high school team at their school. Coaching will work with students to refine boat handling, tactical and technical skills. All students will learn both the skipper and crew positions.
